IN their second pre-season friendly, Sully Centurions narrowly lost to neighbours Barry Wanderers, after a game that had its fair share of interesting moments.

Batting first, Sully started brightly as openers Tom Davies and Nathan Baker put on 37 for the first wicket, when Baker was caught for 23 off the bowling of Cole.

Tom was then joined by new boy Santos who also looked in good touch before he too was caught for 33. Davies and Adam Sylvester (34) took the score along to 130 when Davies was bowled for 47.

The scoring rate slowed down considerably after the halfway mark, thanks to some accurate bowling from Sandhu, Hassett and Downey. Lloyd Bruce's 29, a quick cameo of 13 from Jake Griffett and 15 at the death from the returning Peter Thomas gave the score some respectability. Centurions were eventually all out for 217.

Wanderers opening pair of Hannerford and Blundell never put a foot wrong as they piled on the runs. They had put on 179 for the first wicket when Hannerford was stumped by stand in 'keeper Jake Griffett (on for the injured Baker) off the bowling of Bruce for a marvellous 113.

The next wicket fell only one run later as Santos bowled Croft for a duck. With Baker off injured and the early exits of Ellis and Sylvester, Centurions finished the match with only eight on the field and the Wanderers' batsmen found the gaps in the field with increasing regularity.

However, the match went down to the last over when Blundell, who carried his bat for 80, hit the winning runs with two balls to spare. Wanderers fully deserved the victory and Centurions now look forward to the return match later in the season.

Sully Centurions 217 all out Barry Wanderers 218 for two.
