IT’S been a fantastic season for Sully Reds Under-13s completing the double by winning both the cup and the league. In a season that has seen them lose just one game the boys truly deserve the ‘Champions’ title.

The cup was secured a few weeks ago when Sully took on Cogan at Jenner Park. In a closely fought match, Sully played fantastic football to end up 3-0 winners.

The race to win the league has been a nail biting affair but was decided in what felt like gale force winds last Wednesday, May 6, against Penarth Lions. This match was dominated by the wind, meaning both teams spent a half defending their goals valiantly. With the wind behind them Sully were 3-0 up at the interval and only had to hang on for the second half.

Penarth had other ideas and launched attack after attack at the Sully goal. With two minutes to go Penarth found they had drawn level and a draw looked to be the fairest result. However, Sully hadn’t given up and out of nowhere passed the ball down the right wing to cross into the Penarth goalmouth. The ball went loose and Sully hero Adam Nielsen was there to slot home the winner and give Sully the league title.

As well as superb footballing skills the team have also shown themselves to be good sportsmen by always behaving with impeccable conduct both on and off the pitch. This has created a great team spirit between players, coaches and fans and a healthy respect for all opposition.

Throughout the season the team has been involved in some great matches with everyone playing their part and being a valued member of the squad.

The coaches Roger Hardy, Scott Munro-Morris and Jason Hicks would like to say a massive well done to the boys and a big thank you to everyone who supports the team week in and week out.

Here’s to next season.
