SULLY Cricket Club had their Tuesday friendly cancelled due to the weather.

On Wednesday and Thursday, they had two attempts to play their first ever Vale league game off as MOD St Athan defaulted.

Worse was to come on Friday as Penarth defaulted against the Spartans first team for the Saturday league game.

The battalion was wondering what else would happen, but the rest would be only good news.

The Spartans 2nd team travelled to Lisvane who against all the odds made sure the game went ahead and after winning the toss it was no surprise on a damp and lifeless strip that the Spartans elected to field first.

Opening bowlers A Kalam (nine overs four maidens two for 16) and D Morgan (nine overs three maidens for 15) kept a stranglehold on the opening batsmen.

A Alam (nine overs three for 23) and A Davies (six overs two for 36) continued to trouble the opposition and coupled with A Dour (three overs one for three) and an excellent run out, Lisvane at the end of the allotted 40 overs were 130 for nine.

In reply an excellent opening partnership of 76 between R Howe (21) and S Katari (52) paved the way for a Spartans victory.

A swashbuckling 32 from A Dour almost completed the six wicket win but after being well stumped it was left to Kalam and skipper Morgan to see the Spartans over the line.

On Sunday the Spartans travelled to Rogerstone and came away with a two wicket victory.

Bowling first Mark Loran (two for 18 off seven overs including a wonderful caught and bowled). Trinath (two for 11 off five overs) and Nigel Crick (two for 21 off six overs) kept the home team at bay.

A Davies was the star bowler (three for 18 off six overs) and a special mention to returning Richie Evans for two excellent stumpings, together with Rogerstone youngster, 14-year-old Charlie with 16 No at the end of the innings.

In reply Shoaib (63) was the pick of the batsmen with a superb innings but at the end, after a middle order collapse, a well deserved mention to Sathish (25 No) who saw the Spartans through.

This week Sully CC has two midweek league games followed by two games on Saturday and a friendly game on Sunday.
