PENARTH Town 2nds played their last game of the season last Saturday at home to Cadoxton Imps in the Vale 2nd Division.

After a couple of recent disappointing results Penarth were very much up for rounding off the season in style.

Indeed the home side very quickly got into their stride and started controlling the midfield through Ashley Scott and Scott Willetts. This provided service to the two wingers Mark Odgers and Rhys Owen who started to make space down the flanks.

Soon after, this pressure allowed a ball to cross in to Nathan O'Malia who cut across the Imps goalie and fired home, an early lead for the home side.

Penarth continued to press and not long after O'Malia found himself in space again and fired in his and Town's second.

An injury to James Williams at the back for Penarth meant they had to make a change, bringing on Owes Abdi Osman who moved to the wing and a reorganisation at the back. Owen took up a place at full back and soon had the opportunity to make a run from deep. Using his blistering pace he went past two Imps defenders and finally beat the ‘keeper to put Town three up.

It was now one way traffic and Penarth were creating chance after chance, a couple of these falling to Wes Howells, but it just didn't seem to be his day and he could not convert them.

Town's pressure continued with Gareth Matthews pushing up from deep and crossing in well earned them a corner. Willetts swung it in from the left and O'Malia found himself unmarked at the back post, he nodded the ball in for his hat-trick and Town's fourth. That's how it remained until the break.

In the second half the Town defence looked untroubled with Ryan Bright and Mike Patterson taking control and clearing every Imps forward move.

Josh Todd in the Penarth goal did have to come out and make one critical clearance which reflected his dominance of his area all afternoon. The game after that seemed to slow into something of a rut with both sides seeming to accept that Town were taking all three points.

One nice passing move from Town saw Howells with the ball in the net again only for it to be ruled out for offside - just not his day.

Odgers was replaced late on by Patrick Donnelly who made some nice runs down the right flank and worked hard to help out the Penarth defence.

Towards the end the Barry team did apply some pressure and were finally awarded a penalty, although most of the Town players were quite mystified as to why. Cadoxton scored with what was almost the final kick of the game so it finished 4-1.

Overall a good performance all round leading to a thoroughly satisfactory result and leaving Town with a respectable mid-table position.

All the players agreed they have had a very enjoyable season and thanks go to Rob Jones who has done a fine job of managing and running the side.
