PENARTH Amateur Boxing Club have had a very quiet season this year, even though the gym has been busy with kids who want to keep fit.

Not many of the children want to box which can be a bit frustrating for coach Neil Munn, but on Friday, June 5, three boys boxed on the Highfields show at Ely Arafat club, and what a display they put on.

First up was Cole Hansen who had a rematch against Ashton Sparks of Colcot ABC. Cole boxed Sparks two weeks earlier and lost on a very close decision, with it being only his second fight and fighting on Cole's home show he was very nervous and missed with a lot of punches.

Coach Neil Munn sat Cole down and explained to him what committing to your punches meant and Cole listened very hard, and what a difference it made. Cole won every single round easily and hardly missed with a punch.

Cole was outstanding, when asked Neil Munn said "I think Cole could be a future champion as long as he listens hard and keeps training hard."

Next up was Jake Downs of Penarth ABC versus Jack Hampton of Colcot ABC. Jake has had a lot of decisions go against him since he started boxing, but this one, though it was close and Neil thought that Jake had won, Jake was still nervous of the decision.

The judges gave it to Jake by an unanimous decision. A decision that Jake needed and deserved.

Last up was Seb Lewis of Penarth ABC versus Joseph Tanner.

Seb boxed way above his station doing exactly what he was told by pumping out the jab then coming through with some lovely right crosses and left hooks.

Seb won every round and came close to stopping Tanner in the last round forcing the referee to give Tanner a standing eight count.

Full credit to Tanner because he came back fighting and never gave up. Seb won on an unanimous decision, with both boys showing great sportsmanship at the end of the bout with them shaking hands and wishing each other luck.

These three lads really gave coach Neil a day to remember as hours earlier Neil's wife gave birth to their second little boy. When asked Neil said "...that things just did not get any better."

Neil then stated that all the club needs now is for Emily Griffiths to win the GB title which she is competing for next week. Neil has struggled to get Emily any fights in Wales since she started three years ago, so this year they are biting the bullet and going for it.

Neil having the utmost belief in Emily's ability and she is very confident and happy to have a go.
