THIS week in Penarth Darts there were the first matches in the 1001 Grandmasters singles competition played on four boards throughout Penarth and Cogan.

At the Station the board final was contested between Paul Wingren and John Nowland, both of the Ex’s A side, played for a place in next week's finals, it was to be Paul’s night winning through with 140, 100, 100, 100, x16.

At the Ex’s Club Paul Cox of the Lion B team and Kevin Murdock of the Ex’s B fought out the board final. Paul Scored 100 100 125 but Kevin went through with scores of 140, 140, x10.

At the Golden Lion venue the board final was contested between Russ Edward of the Golden Lion B team and Mark Stevens of the Ex’s A, Russ scored 132, 100, 100 but it was to be Mark who won through scoring 140, 100, 100 x5.

At the Coronation Club the board final was played between Gary Hobbs of the Station and Dave Hodges of the Ex’s B, Dave had the edge scoring 140, 100, but could not wrap things up leaving Gary to take the match with 125, 100, x18.
