KRISHNA took over from captain Morgan as Sully Cricket Club first team looked to the future, and what a start for the newbie, with a 97 run win over Whitchurch Heath.

Losing the toss the Spartans were put into bat, a decision the away team would later regret.

Shoaib opened the batting with Rod Howe putting on 57 for the first wicket before the former was out for a quick fire 39.

Krishna joined Howe and together they steadily piled on the runs eventually reaching 195 and a partnership of 138 before Howe was out for a gallant 40 (despite a pulled hamstring).

Inan (15) joined Krishna who in the 39th over hit the runs he needed to reach his century finishing off on a superb 104 not out and the Spartans at the end of the 40 overs gave Whitchurch a tough target of 250 to win the game.

In reply Mark loran and Inan (taking two wickets) opened the bowling and restricted the opposition to 40 for two after 14 overs with Loran unlucky not to get a wicket.

David Morgan's good run of form with the ball continued as the middle order was quickly removed with his final figures being nine overs three maidens five for 18. (Fourth five wicket haul of the season)

At 90 for eight in the 30th over the Spartans were desperate to get the remaining wickets for maximum points, but stubborn batting would take it right to the wire with Inan taking his third wicket and final figures of nine overs one maiden three for 30, and in the 39th over with only three balls remaining Gaurav took the final wicket to give Sully the full 26 points and remain top of their division.

Sully Cricket Club 249 for four

Krishna 104 not out

R Howe 40

Whitchurch Heath 152 all out

D Morgan five for 18

I Khan three for 30

The first team travel to Monkswood next Saturday knowing two convincing wins in the remaining two games will give them the title, but they will be tough matches so nothing is being taken for granted until the final ball is bowled.

The clubs second team game was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch at Aberdare and with no game this Saturday the final Saturday of the season, as with the first team will be a title/promotion decider.

The following day (Sunday, August 30) the annual charity cricket game in aid of Ty Hafan will take place with the evenings entertainment and raffle taking place at the Seashore Grill (thanks to Gordon and Sue Hadfield).

What an end to the season.

The midweek team having already won the Cardiff full toss league gained some valuable practice before this Thursdays T20 cup final (and a possible league and cup double) with a three wicket win over Rhiwbina.

Rhiwbina were put into bat and on a slow, low bouncing wicket a score of 107 for six would need some getting.

Morgan two for 20 and Atul also with two for 20 were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply Kote with 30 and Haaris with 21 were the star batsmen as the Spartans reached the total in the 18th over.

Rhiwbina 107 for six

Morgan two for 20

Atul two for 20

Sully 108 for seven

Kote 30

Haaris 21
