MURCH Bowling Club Ladies section had their last match of the season in the Evening League against Rectory Road on Monday, August 10.

The result would determine the position each club would achieve in the league table in this region.

The Penarth Club, their close friends and neighbours were hosts to the eagerly anticipated fixture.

Each club won a rink, with Murch bowlers narrowly losing by four shots in a keenly contested game, but rink two enjoyed a comfortable win by nine shots to give Murch an overall win of 29 shots to 24.

On Wednesday, August 12, Murch players took part in the South Warwickshire versus South Vale of Glamorgan game.

This annual meeting of these clubs, hosted by the Murch and included players from Rectory Road, Barry Plastics, Barry Central, Millwood and Cadoxton is one that all clubs enjoy and is eagerly anticipated for its camaraderie, good bowling and conviviality.

This year was no exception. On a beautiful sunny day this imitation six rink game was enjoyed by all.

Scores on rink were close with the lead changing as the game progressed, but South Warwickshire ladies managed to gain an overall win of 110 shots to 88.

Murch secured a win by four shots with players S Blainey, P Ayres, S Mauchline, C Tranter, score 15-11, and Cadoxton squeezed a win of 15-14.

The raffle proceeds went to the captain's charities - British Heart Foundation and Marie Curie.

At close of play, the players adjourned to the club house where festivities continued and everyone enjoyed a very successful and entertaining day.

The Murch ladies would like to extend their thanks to all the participating club for their part in making the day such a memorable one.
