COMPETITION season came to an exciting end recently at Dinas Powys Golf club with two rearranged finals ending in victory for Phil Sutton and Lewis Davies.

The former defeated Club Champion Dale Sullivan in the FA Green trophy and Davies winning five and three over Ian Ryley in the Lewis Williams Cup.

Suttons game went to the last hole where the calming influence of stalwart Bob Wilson may have been the key to success. Sullivan must think he is jinxed by the presence of the Scottish wonder as he lost in a similar contest to him earlier in the season.

Lewis Davies has been knocking on the door to winning ways all year and the nine handicapper duly obliged with a five and three success over the ultra confident Ryley. Some excellent putting and exemplary approach shots saw Davies over the line.

The Autumn Tankard was contested a couple of weeks ago and was won by Martin Brennan (h,cap 14) with a net 64. Built like a valley's sumo wrestler his huge drives gave him the edge over Phil Rawsthorne (15) with a net 65.

The pencil slim, Burnley born, Jonny Depp lookalike, was gutted being pipped at the post as his late season form came to no avail.

In third place Andrew Davies (12) recorded a commendable net 66.

Last Saturday on a beautiful day, the annual Battle of the Patio took place. This comprises of two sections of the club contesting a Plate which was kindly donated by captain Paul Evans a few years ago.

With 20 pairs competing for a maximum of three points the final score came to 28 points each. It came down to the last match even the last putt which was despatched expertly by

Wayne James much to the dismay of recently sun bronzed opponent Geraint Anderson.

Skippers Martin Brennan and Paul Evans were delighted with the outcome and cannot wait for the next match early next year.

The winter league begins this Sunday with again four divisions slugging it out in all weathers to determine the champions come late April 2016.
