SULLY Indoor Bowling Club welcomed Taff Ely I B C from Pontypridd to Sully Stadium for the reverse fixture of a Club Championship game, hoping to turn around the hammering they took in the first game of the season at Pontypridd.

A good win here would put Sully back into the mix and close the gap on leaders Newport and second placed Taff Ely and with the way the fixtures are set the league title is wide open.

Before the game commenced there was a minute silence to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the Paris massacre the previous evening.

The opening exchanges went in favour of the home side who went into an 11 shot lead by the end of the fifth end due to the excellent starts made by the rinks of Brian Griffiths, Fred Phillips and Brian Foscolo ahead by seven, five and four shots respectively.

Between the sixth and tenth ends Sully went further ahead by 23 shots, with five rinks now ahead including Ken McLeod's and Chris Ackland's rinks who had now gained advantages leaving Martin Clarke-Squires rink with a deficit of four shots.

At the half-way stage the overall score now stood at 68 - 45 in favour of Sully but Taff Ely were contesting hard and over ends 11 to 15 this period was fairly even with the visitors only able to reduce their deficit by just two shots, still leaving Sully 21 shots ahead.

With six ends to play the rink of Phil Gershenson, John Jones, Roy Richards and Fred Phillips who had played well all afternoon continued their form to gain a well earned win 27 - 14, whilst Foscolo's rink of Graham Cogbill, Graham Eastment and Mike Doyle continued their fine recent form, once again recording a fine win 22 - 13.

The rink of Morgan, Burton, Hudson and skip McLeod showed grit leading after the second end and finally winning by16 - 11, whilst Griffith's rink who have struggled in the previous two matches finally managed to gain a win scoring two twos on the last couple of ends to win 21 - 18 after being one behind on the 19th end.

Chris Ackland's rink was having a tight game against the visitors rink skipped by Adrian Dash and was only one adrift on the 16th end but lost the last five ends and seven shots losing 17 - 25.

Clarke-Squires rink 5 - 14 behind at end nine kept hanging on being two down on the 15th end winning the next three ends and going ahead 19 - 18, then dropped a two to go one behind before making a good three on the 20th end to hold a two shot advantage going into the last end but then managed to drop a two to tie their game 22 - 22.

The overall result was an excellent win for Sully 125 - 103 gaining revenge for their early season defeat and with four of the six rinks winning and a tie Sully gained 19 points to Taff Ely's three points, the overall score was 125 - 103.

Sully play their last game before the Christmas break on Saturday against Ogwr at Bridgend at 2pm.
