DESPITE the recent rain, the Junior boys at Glamorganshire Golf Club have begun their season preparations with coach, Matthew Coombs at the Vale Academy.

The boys are training every Sunday and making adjustments to their swings, grip and basic set up in readiness for when the sun comes back out and the monsoon rains cease.

This group of boys have been identified for this scheme as young golfers with potential to play for the Junior First Team.

Junior captain, James Price commented “We already have a strong junior team and we hope to win the County league this summer, these younger juniors are showing great promise and will no doubt be pushing hard for their place in the team. Competition for places will be good for the whole squad and I intend to provide experience for these boys by helping them this year, in order to develop our squad for years to come”.

Following the development coaching, the boys will be back to the course for short game practice on putting, chipping and bunker play and then begin training as a team on the course in matchplay competitions.

The current profile of golf is at a high point with the rivalry between Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Ricky Fowler; all great role models for up and coming juniors. Glamorganshire Golf Club are keen to recruit many more juniors into golf, which is a great sport for life.
