ONE of only six of its kind in Wales, Penarth Windsor Lawn Tennis Club hosted its first week-long Grade 3 level tournament during the Easter holidays, attracting more than 200 players from across the UK.

This was a regional level event and an ideal opportunity for the clubs members to challenge themselves against the best in Wales and the South West - and also for the club to confirm its reputation of one of the most welcome tennis clubs around.

There was success on all fronts, with 30 Windsor members taking part and each performing well. Standout successes included Neirin Gilani who battled hard in the 9s and under event, only missing out on the winners medal due to over-generous line-calling. Neirin is one of the UK’s brightest talents within this age group.

In the 14 and under boys competition Jack Rees stormed through a strong field of higher-ranked players, losing out narrowly in the semi finals, and in young Kiran Rayani Windsor has its very own Grade 3 winner after he won five matches on the bounce to scoop the 8s and under title.

Off-court the Deuce Bar was a hive of activity with a warm-welcome from all, and the club wishes to express thanks to all its volunteers who contributed towards this new fixture in the tournament calendar.
