SULLY Sports were beaten 1-0 in the FAW Trophy final on the weekend.

Abergavenny Town subsequently became the first Gwent club for over two decades to win a national competition by lifting the FAW Trophy, at Dragon Park, in Newport.

They also bagged a £5,000 cheque up for grabs.

Gwent football has had little to celebrate since skipper Jimmy Blackie led Cwmbran Town to the inaugural League of Wales (now Welsh Premier League) title in 1992-1993.

By coincidence, Blackie is now manager of Sully Sports and he could only watch on in frustration as a second-minute goal from Craig Norman secured the victory for Welsh League debutants Abergavenny against his side.

After Norman's effort, he and Dan Jenkins went close to adding to it before the break in front of nearly 400 spectators at the well-equipped venue while Jenkins nearly doubled the lead during the second period.

His side were forced to hold off a firm challenge from their South Wales Alliance League opponents.

It was a disappointing result to another fantastic cup run for Sully, who were looking to emulate their trophy success from 2012.

Sully are currently sixth in the South Wales Alliance League with 37 points from 21 matches.
