DINAS Powys Golf Club competition season has been in full flow the last few weeks.

Captain's day last Saturday was blessed with fine weather bar an odd shower.

The 2016 captain Matthew Hadley provided a challenging course and a well organised event off the course which was won by 21 handicapper Andrew Jones with a net 60. Everything went his way and a new handicap of 19 is the next challenge for the popular member.

Peter DeSouza was pipped by one shot with a net 61 (h,cap 14).

Ian Eidman was also unlucky not claim the coveted prize with a five birdie round of a net 62.

Martyn Swensson, Bob Wilson and Phil Rawsthorne picked up prizes for their solid rounds and the day was ended with the presentation and speech from Hadley who was

grateful to have a sit down after greeting all players on the first tee since 7am.

Special thanks were given to Gareth Bennett for his input to the day and the groundsman Julian Bartlett-Jones for providing a well groomed course and slick greens.

The Glamorgan Silver Salver four ball better ball competition was played a few weeks ago and the winners were Lindsay Bennett and Martyn Swensson with 44 points.

Having to play off three quarters of their handicap (11 and eight respectively) the left handed pairing held off the threat of Phil Sutton and Paul Evans who posted 43 points after a scintillating front nine of 25 points.

Ian Eidman and Simon Berni were third with 41 points.

The first team recently played the Glamorgan County team at Dinas and triumphed for the first time in 11 years. Ex-members Martin Price and Lee Ivory were in the county team but the likes of Ian Barkley, Dale Sullivan and Paul Davidson were the more consistent on the evening.

The official opening of the jackdaw lounge at the club takes place on Friday, July 29 at 6.30pm. Sir Gareth Edwards will be present to unveil the refurbishment and all are welcome to an evening which will include live music and food.
