DINAS Powys Golf Club welcomed Wales Rugby Union legend Sir Gareth Edwards recently to officially open their new Jackdaw Lounge.

Prior to the unveiling of the official plaque he was joined by captain Matt Hadley, Ian Eidman and close friend John Huw Williams for a round of golf.

The former Cardiff RFC quartet no doubt spent the time enjoying the sunshine and reminiscing over their careers at the Arms Park and a few chuckles over several misguided shots.

Sir Gareth Edwards and many club members were then treated to a sumptuous buffet provided by Gareth Dommett's team.

Hadley gave a rousing speech giving everyone an insight into the achievements of the Wales and Lions number nine.

In response Edwards thanked all for being invited to perform the official opening and was humbled when given honorary membership by the club.

The evening carried on with live music and a disco which was enjoyed by around 100 people.

The course is looking in excellent shape at the moment which was fitting for the club championship finals over the weekend.

The main event was contested by former champion Paul Davidson (handicap 2) and Kyle Williams (h,cap 3). After a closely contested first 18 holes the vastly experienced Davidson edged the final few holes and won 2&1.

Williams, who shot 40 points in midweek will surely take the title in years to come and will gain great comfort from his performance.

In the second division final (h,caps 10-17) former winter league partners and winners Steve Yates and Fred Orchard went head to head with the former victorious 3&2.

Once again a dogged battle ended with Yates winning a couple of crucial holes.

The third division final (h,caps 18-28) was an absolute stunner with Jamie Sullivan beating Jimmy Miller on the 37th hole.
