PENARTH gymnastics went to the Welsh Institute of Sport to compete in the Welsh Agility Championships on Saturday, July 16. Gymnasts from all over Wales were eligible to compete against one another to be crowned agility champion.

The gymnasts had an excellent day achieving high standards and placing within the top eight in most of the categories.

Amelia Balfry took to the floor first in the morning and after executing three tumble routines finished in eighth position overall.

Next to compete were the 9-10 age groups, the team consisted of Bethan Thomas, Rebekah Newbury, Phoebe Williams, Eva Kibblewhite and Paris Lawrence. The girls performed exceptionally well and were crowned overall team champions.

In addition, Phoebe Williams was awarded the top spot and given the title of Welsh Agility Champion, closely followed by Rebekah Newbury in fourth place and Eva Kibblewhite in fifth.

In the 12-13 categories, Penarth gymnasts were once again unstoppable. Tia Simpkins and Abbie Edwards worked extremely hard to take the top two places. Tia Simpkins was awarded agility champion, closely followed by Abbie Edwards in second.

Penarth Gymnastics is currently running classes over the summer holidays for both beginners and experienced gymnasts. The gym is located in the Ty Verlon Industrial Estate off Cardiff Road in Barry.
