DINAS Powys Cricket Club's 1st team welcomed Vale to Parc Bryn y Don on Saturday, with the 'Villagers' losing the toss and being asked to bat first.

Opener Matthew Todd-Bennett lost his wicket for 10 before Rizvi and DiMauro built a solid partnership of 128.

DiMauro eventually fell for a defensive 28 laying the platform for Rivzi to make 76. Curtis Wingren then knocked the ball around for a run of 40 to take the Dinas total to a par 218-7 off 45.

After a tea made by Ruth Clogg, Dinas found it difficult to make any kind of breakthrough as the Vale openers racked up a 120 opening stand by the drinks break.

Some honest words by the skipper at drinks galvanised a low confidence Dinas pack to hit back straight after drinks.

Fernando (2/21) struck first by getting rid of the Vale captain for 48 with a smart catch from Josh Clogg at mid-off. This began a panic in the Vale dressing room as Rizvi, Zaman and Vowles began to turn the screw in Dinas' favour.

With the run rate climbing and wickets starting to fall, Vale found themselves needing 70 off 10 overs with six wickets. Alex Vowles (2-19) then picked up two key wickets to slow the rate, with great catches from Wingren and Clarke.

With the last five overs and Vale needing 44, Clarke and Rizvi combined for Rivzi to take a one-handed running catch to dismiss the set opener for 86.

Another wicket followed for Clarke (2/46) coupled with a rejuvenated fielding display claiming two run outs from Wingren and Vowles which turned the game towards Dinas.

Rivzi (1/49) then used all his experience and held Vale to seven off the final over giving Dinas a victory by five runs.

Dinas will now go on to face Monmouth away with a victory required to hold any hope for a top two finish.

The 2nds beat Sully by 10 wickets with Ryan Todd making 90no and Andy Smith 40no in openings stand.

The 3rds lost against St Fagans.
