A NEW sport is being launched this month as part of a campaign to get more girls in the Vale more active.

Vale Girls on the Move is a campaign developed between the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Sports and Development team and Badminton Wales, and they will be launching Glowminton, a sport ideal for girls aged 11 and above.

Glowminton is a new approach to playing badminton - in the dark. It is informal, using UV shuttlecocks and nets, as well as neon wristbands/body-paint and having music in the background.

Sessions start on Thursday, September 15 from 5pm to 6pm at Holm View Leisure Centre, Barry

The first session is free and then £1 per session, with rewards for attending the sessions.

This initiative forms part of the Active Young People scheme, which is all about getting young people active more often, by encouraging them to exercise more frequently throughout the week.

Anyone interested in attending the Glowminton sessions can just turn up on the evening, or contact Rachel Shepherd, who is part of the sports and development team, on 07730 749485 or email rlshepherd@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk for more information.
