SULLY Bowling Club have finished as runners-up in this year's Huw Meddins Trophy with Penarth Windsor crowned the winners.

This is a great achievement for the village club, the competition having been whittled down to the final five clubs to fight it out on one day at Dinas Powys.

The final format is two rinks playing two games of 11 ends with points for the win and then shot difference to count.

Last Wednesday the side travelled to Penyrheol for the rain postponed match. With travelling for a 5.30pm start this was very much a scratch side to fulfil the fixture though the team did well to win on two rinks.

Rink 1: B Curtis, D Curtain, T Murphy, J Best 22 - 19

Rink 2: A Rees, H Levick-Jones, A Thomas, D Curtis 18 - 17

Rink 3: C Michael, D Davies, D Hotchkiss, D Edwards 16 - 23

Rink 4: A Smith, E Prior, M Hardy, B Griffiths 8 - 22

Final score: 64 - 81

With the last game against Gelligaer being a washout, it has been moved to Saturday, September 17.

This week, Saturday, September 10, is club finals day and on Sunday two rinks from the club play in the final of the Alan Martin against Barry Athletic on the neutral green of Millwood.

To reach this final has been a great achievement for the small village club.
