Penarth Town 7 - Masons Moving Group 2

PENARTH Town's first team took on Masons Moving Group last week, at home in the Vale Premiership. Penarth were fielding a strong team and had high hopes of continuing their great start to the football season.

It was not long before Josh Stephens and Rhys Knight were causing the visitors problems on their flanks and a ball in from the left by Stephens found Ryan Williams who headed in neatly for an early lead. Not long after a ball from Knight this time on the right picked out Paul Beedell in the centre who also finished clinically.

Town's back four of Rhys Fford, Anthony Angove, Stefano Damiani and Luke Horwood had looked untroubled but as they pushed up on a high line they were caught by a long ball over the top for Masons to grab a goal back and get themselves back into the game.

This seemed to spark Penarth back into action and then Grant Beedell fed a ball through to his brother who finished low down in the corner for his second.

It was 3 - 1 then to the Town at the break and soon after the restart Williams was at it again, this time a beautiful feed from Mike Jenkins who was now totally dominating the mid-field, a hard low down shot from Williams extended the lead.

Stuart Chapman in the Penarth goal who had been very inspirational with his vocal support had to retire with a groin problem to be replaced by Idris Angove in the Penarth goal. He had little to do really as the visitors were really beaten by now and on the point of giving up, but did provide quality ball as his team went forward.

Masons resolve was well and truly finished when Jonny Williams, who had come on to help tired legs fed Grant Beedell a lovely ball which he finished nicely down low to the Masons 'keepers left.

Macauley Winton came on for Penarth to again provide freshness and straight away gave the team a well earned boost.

With only about 10 minutes to go Masons were awarded a penalty which they converted only for Penarth to also be given one which Paul Beedell slotted away for Town's seventh and his hat-trick.

Great performance all round and that win now puts Penarth into second place in the league.
