THIS week in the Vale of Glamorgan football league, Vale United continued their perfect start to the season as they beat Masons Moving Group 5 - 1.

Vale United have won all seven of their league fixtures, Masons are the mirror opposite having lost all their games but green shoots of recovery were shown here. St Athan kept in touch with the leaders with their own 5 - 1 victory over Dinas Powys Athletic, keeping them six points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

Barry Athletic lost their second game in a row as Island Marine defeated them 2 - 0, an excellent result for Marine who are improving vastly on last season already. Penarth's good form of four wins on the bounce came to screeching halt as they lost 4 - 1 to Cowbridge Town who have now notched three in a row in the league to go third, ahead of their opposition on goal difference.

Rhoose finally gained their first league win of the season and did so in style romping to 6 - 0 away win against Tynewydd, who are now without a league win since the opening day.

In the first division, controversy marred the much anticipated top of the table clash between Barry Athletic B and FC Pumas, with the game being abandoned.

Meanwhile, Barry Belgrade put Sully to the sword 5 - 1 to move second while SP Billy edged out Dockers 4 - 3 to stay fourth. Two points now separate the top four.

Cadoxton Barry picked up just their second point of the season with an impressive result against Cogan Coronation. Glenbrook's poor form continued as they were dismantled 8 - 1 against Cadoxton Athletic.

In Division Two, the top four all won, the top three all in convincing fashion. Leaders Cadoxton Imps downed Island Marine B 6 - 1 to continue their 100 per cent league record. Barry Saints thumped FC Pumas B 5 - 0 while BVFC were victorious over Barry Albion 4 - 1.

Fourth place Penarth Town B edged out Rhoose B 3 - 2 to open up an eight point gap between the top four and the rest of the league.

Next week the SWFA Intermediate Cup second round takes centre stage with Vale United, St Athan, Cowbridge, Dinas Powys Athletic, Rhoose and Barry Athletic all representing the league.

In fact Barry Athletic travel to last season's Premier Division champions Cardiff Airport now of the SWFA Alliance League. A full division one and two fixture list is scheduled too.
