DINAS Powys Lawn Tennis Club member Nicole Kells won this year's most promising junior award presented by councillor Margaret Hayley.

The Sue Thomas Salver award is presented yearly to the junior who has made the most progress or achievement in the past year.

Nicole recently turned 12-years-old so the achievements she was recognised for were made when she was 11.

Her achievements included winning the South Wales Road to Wimbledon area final for under-14s where she progressed to the national final in London.

She represented Wales Under-12s beating both the Scottish and Irish number one's in the Tri Nation event held at Cardiff Castle.

At club level she is the club champion at both the under-13 and under-16 age groups. In the under-18 group she lost in the final to Libby Smith.

Her achievements were made more remarkable following time spent commuting from London to Cardiff for the first half of the year.

Nicole is now back living in Penarth, attending Stanwell School.
