Dinas Ladies FC 2 v Newport County Ladies FC 0

GOING into the first game back since the Christmas break, Dinas Ladies FC could have been found wanting in the fitness department.

This wasn't the case as they more than matched their much younger opponents. Newport County Ladies FC certainly provided very tough opposition on a warm winters afternoon.

Laura Murray thought she had given the home side the lead from a Taylor Page corner but was adjudged to have fouled her defender before heading home.

Moments later, the in-form striker showed her quality as she guided the ball home from 15 yards.

Dinas slowly took control and were forcing the visitors to defend well at times as their attacking style proved very difficult to stop. Nau Yamanda proved a thorn in Newport's side all afternoon as, along with Jo Jones and Sam Saunders, they won countless second balls to put them right on the attack.

Molly Chapman and Page offered the width as they looked to get in behind early. The back four of Vicky Ellison, Rachel Beare, Leanne Pattermore and Kelly Tuck are such a formidable force as their no nonsense approach to the act of defending protects Naomi Wilson in the goals and limits the opposition to half chances at best.

The second half needed an injection of life and after bringing on Laura Lewis followed by Gemma Crowley and Jodi Bowles they lifted the game.

The second goal was on the cards and it was unselfish work from Murray who played Crowley in to strike a pile driver which the visiting 'keeper struggled to deal with, Laura Lewis making no mistake moping up from two yards.

The home side played the game out very well with Hayley Imperato working the visitors defence.

This was a disciplined display from the Dinas 'Villagers' who now look forward to a trip to Porth on Sunday, January 15 to keep the run going.
