PENARTH Bowling Club’s successful indoor season continued over the past two weeks with three wins in the matches played at the Rectory Road Indoor Stadium.

On February 26, Pencoed were the visitors for a very enjoyable mixed game in which the opposition gave a very good account of themselves with victories on two of the four rinks.

However, Penarth’s blushes were saved by winning performances on the other two rinks where skip Paul Church ably backed up by Viv Duckers, Chris Davies and captain, Alan Stockham pulled off a handsome 29 - 8 success and the ever dependable Bob Lewis aided by Norma Duggan, Sandra Roberts and June Williams prevailed by 19 - 15.

Matches against the Murch BC are always eagerly awaited with the visitors guaranteed to put up a good performance and the match on St David’s Day proved no exception with the Murch drawing on one rink, thanks to the efforts of Roger Mauchline, Geoff Lane, Chris Salvage and Dave Poole, who pushed Rob Grant, Don Shirley, Tony Gent and Phil Davies all the way.

However, the stellar performance from the visitors came from John Flye, Derek Davies, A Cross and a promising youngster called Doug Bateman who vanquished the captain’s star- studded rink 19 - 10.

Sadly, the other two visiting fours could not quite match this and Penarth won through thanks to Tony Thomas, John Whitfield, Nick Thomas and Colin Grant (30-6) and John Bowen, Russell Daniel, Mike England, and Bob Lewis (30-7).

On Wednesday, March 8, Penarth welcomed Llantwit Major where the visitors gained success on one rink and came within four shots on another but the issue was put beyond doubt by two strong performances from the other two home fours.

The emphatic wins for Bob Lewis, Russell Daniel, Brian Knight and Ron Birkby (34-7) and Phil Davies, Peter Needham, Tony Thomas, and Don Butler (30-4) ensured another comfortable winning margin.

Everyone at the club would like to send their best wishes to Berwyn Lansley and Guy Thomas and to wish them both a speedy recovery. Everyone at the club is looking forward to hearing the iconic “Thomas Roar” in the not too distant future, Guy.
