Abertillery 1-7 Dinas ladies

League champions Dinas Powys ladies

KNOWING a result today would secure the championship, Dinas Powys Ladies football team took time to settle into their normal game.

The Belles had the better of the opening exchanges forcing a number of corners.

Reshuffling the shape proved vital as the visitors grew into the game and stemmed the threat down the left.

Laura Murray opened the scoring after 20 minutes before skipper Leanne Pattermore smashed home the second from a corner.

At the break, and opting to stay out in the sun, the visitors addressed any concerns and put in a display of champions in the second period.

Set pieces at any level are so important and Dinas showed this again with Vicki Elison and Kelly Tuck heading home two corners.

Pattermore added her second from the spot as Murray was proving a royal pain.

Murray bagged her brace with 25 minutes left.

Dinas used the rolling subs well as Sophie Whittle Laura Lewis and Nao ran themselves into the ground for the team. Emma Higgs replaced the engine Jo Jones in the middle and it was a like for like swap.

Taylor Page and Gemma Crowley showed their quality on the ball with deliveries from wide that could grace any level.

Hayley Imperato and Jodi Bowles who shared the responsibility in goals.

Naomi Wilson had a rare run out in attack and was unlucky not to add to the total.

It was very fitting for Alicia Cox to score the 7th as the young fullback was player of match and she put in so many over laps.

A spokesman for the club said: "Well done ladies on becoming league champions.

Now to prepare for back to back finals.

It has been an incredible season for this amazing bunch of ladies who have shown time and time again work rate, effort and a plan can easily beat ability."
