PENARTH Cricket Club have reached the second round of the ECB National Club Championship Cup.

It follows their victory over Cheltenham Cricket Club at the Victoria Ground in Cheltenham on Sunday, April 23.

The bears won the toss and elected to field first.

The home side were skittled out for 100 off less than 42 overs as Scott Matthews led the way for the Penarth bowlers with 3-17.

There were also wickets for Dan Anderton (2-10), Ali Bukkhari (1-9), Morgan Humphreys (1-9), Richard Skone (1-13) and Alex Langrish (1-5) as the bowlers acquitted themselves well.

In response, the bears reached their target in just less than 25 overs, losing just three wickets.

Captain Jonathan Davies praised the impact of the younger players including Morgan Humphreys, Dan Anderton, Alex Langrish in the bowling department and Jack Thomas in the batting as well as Scott Matthews who made his competitive debut.

This Saturday, Penarth first XI play their first league game in Premier 1 against Ammanford at home.
