THE WINDSOR Bowls Club PG1 team, despite being without a number of regulars, recorded a superb victory by 24 shots on a tricky Pontyclun Green.

In so doing, they leapfrogged the Mid Glamorgan team to occupy second place in the promotion chase. There were victories for Woodcock with Evans, Palfrey and Hope 22-13, Holmes with Matthews, Rogers and Gunter 21-15. McLeod’s rink benefitted from superb performances from Hudson and Flitney and with Morrish in attendance, swept to a 26-12 victory.

The long journey to Pontyclun proved too much for skip Steve Close on the other rink and, with Lewis, Howells and Rees, they went down 17-22.

It was not such a happy story on the previous Wednesday as the Munro Cut team crashed to a 15 shot defeat to Barry Romilly. The only saving grace was Paul Gunter’s rink as, with Williams, Latham and Burton, they salvaged a draw.

The biggest disappointment of the week undoubtedly came on the Sunday with the long-awaited visit of Cheltenham with their nine rinks and many supporters. The only real winner on the day was the weather. However, as a social gathering, it was a huge success and some determined bowlers did manage to play a short roll-up later in the day.

The ladies had a very disappointing week losing all three games. The double rink was played at home on Monday against Millwood. Both the weather and conditions were good but there were losses on both rinks. That same day the evening league was also played at home but this time against a strong Penylan team. Windsor lost on both rinks despite a good performance on Di Thomas’s rink. C. Lewis, C. Gunter, M. Owen, D. Thomas 17-20 . On Thursday afternoon, the ladies were away to Murch. After all the rain the greens were very heavy but Windsor did manage to secure a win on one of the three rinks. The rink scores were S. Howells, R. Evans, B. Dunlop, V. Flitney 10-23. C. Fitzgerald, A. Rees, M. Owen, D. Thomas. 12-23. On the other rink, to counter the conditions, Ann Morrish was switched to skip and her power bowling secured victory 17/12 in company with L. White, K. Dyer and S. Patterson.
