THIS August Bank Holiday Sunday (August 27) promises to be like no other as Dinas Powys RFC, in collaboration with the J9 Foundation, host a charity ‘Vets 10’ tournament on the Common, Dinas Powys.

Teams from across Cardiff and the Vale are coming together in support of our very own Leighton Dutton, who has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and the late Joost van Der Westhuizen’s J9 Foundation which supports those suffering from Motor Neurone Disease.

Barry, Old Penarthians, Penarth, Sully Seaview, Cardiff Quins, Rhiwbina and of course Dinas Powys will compete against an all-star ‘J9 Select’ featuring former Welsh internationals Jamie Ringer, Ceri Sweeney and Jason Forster, Italy’s Paul Griffen and South Africa’s Thinus Delport. Also making appearances are Andy Powell and current Welsh International and British Lion, Alex Cuthbert who will present the trophy to the winners of this one-off event.

In addition to the rugby there will be a host of activities to keep the family entertained including a disco, live music, mini and junior rugby taster sessions, a South African themed BBQ and liquid refreshments.

There will also be a raffle and auction featuring items donated by, amongst others, the Welsh Rugby Union, the Cardiff Blues, the Scarlets, Saracens, Glamorgan County Cricket Club, Gilbert, Kooga and The Escape Room, Cardiff

So, come rain or shine, make sure you pop along and join the fun whilst supporting both worthwhile causes. The first match kicks off at 12.30pm and entry to the clubhouse and terrace cost £5 per adult (Under 16s are free) with proceeds being shared between Leighton and J9.

Parking at the club and surrounding neighbourhood is limited but Dinas Powys train station is just minutes away from the venue and, with attendance expected to be high, the use of of public transport is recommended.
