AN OLYMPIC swimmer from Penarth is holding a training camp this week for the next generation of stars.

Ieuan Lloyd, who competed for Team GB in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic games, is leading the camp from Monday to Thursday this week at the Cardiff International Pool in Cardiff Bay.

More than 30 swimmers attended the first day on Monday (August 21) and they included swimmers aged 9-16 who are involved in swimming clubs around Wales .

The aim is to help improve swimmers’ starts and turns, develop technique, provide opportunities to learn more advanced skills and increase their

overall confidence, in an enjoyable and professional environment.

The camp is providing swimmers’ with an interesting, fun and busy programme involving exciting team building games, intensive swimming sessions, demonstrations and specific land training exercises.

Mr Lloyd said: "It has been really good. This is my big camp and I've tried to keep it fun.

"The kids seemed to enjoy it and we will also be doing some games.

"It is nice to see them interacting. We spend one day on each stroke and try to develop their confidence and learn new drills.

"I have got some experienced guys who've helped me out."

Speaking about his plans for the future he said he wants to do more work in schools and has already worked with a school in Newport.

He said: "I have a lot to offer in the pool and think I can make a real impact."
