NEEDING only two points to secure promotion, Windsor PG1 bowlers cut loose in their away fixture at Mackintosh, scoring the full 14 points with a win by 116 to 58.

Evans, Gooding, Hope and Woodcock won 28-12, Flitney, Palfrey, Hudson and McLeod won 30-12, Rogers, Ellard, Rees and Close lost 28-123 and Matthews, Burton, Gunter and Holmes win 30-22. Next season comes the tougher challenge of division two.

It was not such a happy week for the PG2 team, losing both their fixtures. However, a tough away fixture at St Fagans did bring them success on two rinks but the match overall was lost by eight shots. The winning rinks were Mathias, Hales, Rogers and Howells 23-22 and Williams, Fulbrook, Cuccinello and Thorne 18-12.

In the other match at home to league leaders Barry Athletic, the team went down to defeat by 86 shots to 72. Skip Charlie Lewis with Trenchard, Daniels and Cuccinello suffered the agony of a one shot defeat on the last end so it was left to Thorne to claim the only rink win assisted by Ellis, White and notably Hales. Modesty prevented Eddie from pointing out his two brilliant performances in the week.

The one ladies match of the week was an away trip to Cowbridge where most of the team struggled to cope with the artificial surface. However, there was one rink win by D. Thomas with A. Hudson, B. Ellis and D. Roper. The other scores were C. Lewis, C. Fitzgerald, V. Flitney and K. Dyer 7-27. L. Thomas, A. Rees, S. Paterson and M. Owen 17-21.

The previous Sunday, club stalwart Don Stafford and his Windsor side welcomed a 10 rink mixed team from Yate which included his sister and sibling rivalry was evident as their rink battled for victory. It was a somewhat damp day but 16 ends were completed before the serious socialising started. Traditionally at the Windsor, friendly matches are always called a draw with no reference to the scores. However, on this occasion Don has insisted that a mention be made of the fact that Windsor won by one shot.

On Sunday, August 27, the sun shone brightly for the annual John Skone Memorial Trophy. Everyone agreed that it was one of the finest events staged at Windsor as teams from far and wide battled for the honours. At the end of the day, the mixed rink from Whitchurch managed to see off a determined challenge from Sully Sports to gain a deserved victory. Windsor president Veronica Flitney made the presentation and was glowing in her praise to all the bowlers who had contributed to the day and to the army of Windsor volunteers who worked so hard to make it a success.
