THE winter league season has ended at Dinas Powis Golf Club and it was Paul Gibson and Jeff Haines who emerged as champions for the 2017-18 campaign with a resounding 7&6 win over Troy and Darren Knight.

In a one-sided affair the winners dominated right from the start and have proved to be worthy successors to Roger Davies & Alan Humphreys.

In the Knockout final Dale Sullivan & James Spear managed to pip Simon Collins & Jamie Hosgood on the final hole in a much closer contest.

Congratulations to all who took part at the beginning of October 2017.

This is a prestigious competition and now attention turns to the summer tournaments.

The spring Tankard and FA Green trophy qualifier was won by Ian Eidman with a gritty Net 64.

The former Cardiff and Wales front rower was back to his best after a poor winter by his high standards.

The first captains four ball better ball competition took place last weekend and the winners were Simon Collins and Dai Roberts with 46pts.

Closely following were Rob Hathway & Phil Sutton with 45 pts.

They had a better back nine than Phil Patterson & Martin Swennson who claimed 3rd place.

The club has undergone much transition in the last 18 months with a new professional, and a dynamic management team implementing a positive strategy both on and off the course.

With an award-winning catering company providing outstanding cuisine with competitive prices, the golf club is moving in the right direction considering the difficulties the inclement weather has thrown up over the last six months at least.

The course was rarely closed and this is a real plus for members who seek value for money and opportunities to play when other clubs have to close due to bad conditions.
