SULLY Pinks Girls are affiliated with Sully Sports FC and based at Sully Sports and Social Club, South Road, Sully. The football club promotes a community ethos and fair play.

The girls section has never looked so healthy with teams at age groups, U9s, U10s, U11s, U13s and U14s playing throughout 2017-18.

Most notably the success of the U13s Girls age group in winning the South Wales Women’s and Girls’ Division 3 title deserves the applause after a nail biting finish to their season.

In their final game of the season, Dave Brown (coach of the U13s) sent his players out knowing that a win was needed to secure the title.

In a tense match against Villa Dino, Sully managed to grab a 1-0 victory.

They won a total of 13 matches, drawing two and losing just a single match.

Dave said: “The team spirit and hard work that the girls produced over the season has been very rewarding to watch.

“It’s our first competitive season in the South Wales Girls League and we now look forward to next season when we move up to playing on a full-size pitch and full-size goals.

“They played with so much enthusiasm and have enjoyed the journey. I am proud to be their coach.

“They even received a congratulations letter from the Mauricio Pochettino, manager of Tottenham Hotspur.”

Also, there was some success for the U14s Pinks who finished runners-up in the league winning 15 of their 18 matches.

Coach Steve Gunney said: “This season was meant to be about development as we had to bring news players in and gel as a team.

“To finish second to Llantwit Fardre who won every game this season was a remarkable achievement for this great bunch of players.

“They have produced some fantastic football playing against teams all over the South Wales area and have been exciting to watch.

“The participation of girls in football is growing year on year and Sully Sports FC are working hard to provide opportunities for girls to progress in the sport.”
