PENARTH continued their winning start to the season with a 47 run victory away at Clydach

Having won the toss and chosen to bat, the bears reached a very competitive 277-6 from their 50 overs.

Opener Scott Matthews impressed again with 53 and there were also half centuries for Nick Morgan (57) and Jonathan Davies (58).

Clydach were bowled out for 230 with an over and two balls to spare despite 55 from opener Steffan Davies.

Will Skone took a fantastic 4-48 and Richard Skone 3-35 with Morgan Humphreys chipping in with two and Scott Matthews with one to guide Penarth to yet another victory.

The second team were also victorious, against Port Talbot Town at home.

The visitors opted to bat first and were bowled out for 179 with 11 overs to spare.

Rhys McGowan was the pick of the bowlers with 3-24 with Tom Pascoe (2-34), Tim Miller (2-53), Dafydd Manley (2-11) and Andy Graveson (1-54) also among the wickets.

The bears reached their target in the 37th over with an unbeaten 61 from Llyr Morris helping them to a six wicket win.

It wasn’t such a good day for the thirds who lost at the last in a tense finish away at Upper Rhondda.

Penarth got 149-9 from their 40 overs with skipper and opener Conrad Adams top scoring with 36.

In a nail biting finish, Upper Rhondda won with just two balls and one wicket to spare.

Tom Parkinson’s 3-29 gave them a chance with Ryan Wey and Julien Humphreys both picking up two and Navan Kathir and Neil Stephens both picking up one as the bears fell to an agonising one wicket loss.

The fourths were also beaten as they hosted the Bay Dragons.

The bears hit a fantastic 207-3 from their 40 overs.

Nick Viner led the way, finishing unbeaten on 110 to give Penarth a great chance of victory.

But in response, the Bay Dragons reaches their target with two overs to spare largely down to an unbeaten 90 from Avinash Mehrotra.

Andrew Prickett 2-29, Nick Viner 2-41 and Robert Crimp 1-40 took the wickets as the bears fell to a five wicket loss.

On Sunday, the club are hosting Mumbles, Swansea and Neath in the T20 festival.
