BARRY Wanderers were the visitors to Dinas Powys Cricket Club's Bryn y Don on Saturday as old foes locked horns in an eagerly-anticipated derby.

As the sun bore down, Dinas skipper Gordon Hannah won the toss and elected to bat, a decision made easier by some tardy arrivals.

On a well used wicket, some tight bowling kept the hosts honest, before Hannah was bowled by his opposite number Jonny Hill.

The Dinas batsmen found it hard to get any rhythm going.

When Fogden fell at 55-2, with almost half the overs gone Curtis Wingren added some urgency to proceedings and looked in fine form until indecision between him and Matt Todd-Bennett ended with him being run out.

Stuart Jones and Geoff Colley came and went in quick succession and Dinas' chance of getting to 200 went with them.

Jack Houghton joined Todd-Bennett and finally some urgency was found before Todd-Bennett was bowled for 47.

Houghton (20) and Upinder Singh (19) got the villagers to 161 before Rhys Lloyd was last man out in the 43rd over.

Dinas knew from their innings that lack of pace was the key, and opens with Alex Vowles and Lewis Clarke popping the ball on the spot.

Whilst no wickets fell early, runs were equally hard to come by due to superbly accurate bowling.

After drinks at 15 overs, Sam Harris tried upping the pace and was immediately out and Tillbrook fell after a brief cameo.

With Dinas old boy Brychan Tudor finding it impossible to get the ball away at one end, Wanderers struggled and the required run rate increased as wickets fell.

In the end the ask was too much as Matt Todd-Bennett finished 3-49, Fogden 2-25 and Jones 2-30 and Wanderers ended up on 148-8, 14 runs short of victory.

A great bowling and fielding display by a focused Villagers side.

The 2nds travelled to Sudbrook and were put in to bat on a scorching afternoon.

Both opened found runs as Lloyd DiMauro (57) and skipper Jeff Mitchell (68) found some form.

Nathan Bennett joined in the fun and scored a great 51 as the Villagers got to 223-7 in their 45 overs.

Wickets were shared as Dinas bowled Sudbrook out for 168. Pick of the bowlers was Olly Coughtrey with 3-27, with great support from Rhys Bradley (2-27), DiMauro (2-36) and Reuben Mitchell (2-38).

The 3rds travelled the short distance to Wenove to face Sully Spartans side who proved way to strong for the mixture of youth, experience and enthusiasm in the Dinas team.

Batting first Spartans raced to 272-5, although a massive mention must go to junior Ollie Hurley who took 4-43.

In reply only Alun Harris made is to double figures, his 22 the stand out in Dinas' response of 72 all out.
