PRIDE of place in this week's Penarth Bowling Club report has to go to Alan Stockham's PG2 side's blitzing of local rivals Penarth Windsor.

A 3 to 1 rinks victory saw the overall result provide Alan with 12 points by a margin of 83 shots to 61.

Bob Hill, John Whitfield, Neil Gaskell and Trevor Jenkins led 11-5 after 8 ends and then continued to hog the mat to amass an impressive 35-9 win.

The onslaught continued with Guy Thomas, Derek Musk, Dave Ingram and Dave Murphy powering to a 27-14 final margin, picking up 12 shots on the last 5 ends.

Colin Hicks, Berwyn Lansley, capt Alan and Ron Birkby also played their part running out winners by 16-12.

Unfortunately the fourth rink had a bad day at the office.

The excellent start to the Munro Cup campaign continued when visitors Rhoose were overhauled by a resilient Penarth team. Three rinks achieved the objective with Nick Chandler, Bob Horne, Jack Beanland and Mike Conway running away with a 22-8 win and were always in control.

Dave Dalby, Dave Plank, Bob Willmott and Berwyn Lansley produced a great last 5 ends to wrestle the lead and secure a 17-12 result.

Clive Fry, Paul Church, capt Mike and Phil Davies almost let an 18-11 lead slip away but managed to hold on to win 18-16.

A real ding-dong battle occurred on Phil Crocker's rink ending in a 14 all draw. Derek Blainey, Guy Thomas and Terry Buckingham all played their part in securing the one point for the draw.

The 13 points gained on the night certainly helps to keep the current momentum going.

Saturday saw a double bill with Llantrisant with the PG1 side travelling away to what proved to be a desperately close and tricky encounter. The green appeared to have a mind of its own and powers of concentration of the highest level were needed.

The result went down to the very last wood of the very last end. All square at 85-85 meant that Nick Chandler's rink would decide the result.

A tight start to the end saw Llantrisant holding the one shot needed to win but a masterful draw from Bob Horne edged in front of shot to take the lead.

Nick Chandler fell at least 8 yards short so as not to risk giving shot away. A good wood from the opposing skip disturbed the head but left Penarth still holding the one shot needed, running out winners by 24-21.

The end result was 86-85 to PBC and 10 points secured. Other rink scores were Paul Church 14-24, Phil Crocker 25-14, Dave Plank 23-26.

An amazing coincidence on the day found the PG2 side achieving exactly the same result at Penarth against Llantrisant. An overall score of 77 to 76 gave them a 1 shot win and 10 points taken.

With the same four playing together Bob Hill was not able to repeat the runaway score of the previous week and went down 19-24.

However they had produced a credible fight back after being 3-14 down after 8 ends getting back to 19 all on the 19th

Hildrup, Musk, Ingram and Daniel retrieved an 8-14 deficit on the 10th end to register a 26-20 by scoring on the next 8 ends.

Brian Knight skipped a rink of T. Thomas, Alex Forsyth and Chandler Jnr to a very close 2 shot win (19-17) after leading 13-1 after 11 ends.

Colin Hicks, Lansley, Stockham and Birkbyled 13-12 on the 19th end but lost on the last 2 to go down 13-15.

In the back ground, the Alliance side have been producing some solid performances most recent being the 74-56 win over St Josephs.

Rinks of Colin Hicks (19-10), Brian Knight (19-18) and Berwyn Lansley (19-11) all won with Ken Thorne creating an honourable draw.

At St Fagans things were not quite so rosy as they suffered a loss by 50 to 70 shots with only Colin Hicks, Berwyn Lansley, John Bowen and Brian Knight securing a win, albeit by only 1 shot.
