SECOND team captain Steve Latham led from the front as his Windsor Bowls team gained an excellent win against Cardiff Athletic by 11 shots after apparently being blitzed by Penarth the week before.

The rink scores were Brin Peregrine, Alan Dudley, Mike Cuccinello and Simon Latham 31-17.

Tim White, John Hardess, Brian Rogers and Dave Howells 26-17.

The evergreen Don Stafford, Roger Ellis, Arty Woodcock and Dave Hales 18-18. Ian Mathias, Alun Daniel, Keith Williams and Derek Davies 11-23.

Meanwhile, the newly promoted Windsor first team travelled (more with hope than expectation) to play Barry Athletic who are unbeaten and much fancied to achieve promotion this season and thereby immediately return to the First Division.

After 15 ends, a shock looked on the cards as Windsor led by 6 shots but the strength and skill of the Barry team came through as they deservedly won by a comfortable 20 shots.

However, fighting performances by the Windsor bowlers gave them wins on two of the four rinks and four vital league points. Both wins were achieved on the last of the 21 ends.

Matt Woodcock with Richard Flitney, captain Pete Morrish and Ian Paterson 21-20. Graham Carlisle with Tom Evans, Mal Hope and David Rees 23-20.

Tony Holmes with Mike Matthews, Charles Burton (making a welcome return) and Paul Gunter 15-21. Ken McLeod with Charlie Lewis, Mike Lloyd-Jones and Rod Hudson 14-32.

On Wednesday, Windsor welcomed near neighbours Penarth for a Munro Cup Game.

It was an extremely close match throughout but Windsor managed to put an end to their opponents winning cup run by 3 shots.

Rink scores were captain Charlie Lewis, Dave Hales, Keith Williams and Clive Palfrey 15-13.

Mike Matthews, Charles Burton, Paul Gunter and Tony Holmes 15-23.

Tom Evans, Mal Hope, Dave Rees and Graham Carlisle 24-18.

Rod Hudson, Roger Ellis, Pete Morrish and Matt Woodcock 19-16.

The Alliance team did not fare so well in their away fixture against a strong St Fagans team, going down by 38 shots and losing on all four rinks.

For the Ladies, it was a disappointing week, losing both the Double Rink and Evening League matches.

The double rink matches are proving a problem as Windsor attempt to select players to give them experience but are finding themselves facing very experienced and competent bowlers.
