SULLY Centurions made the trip to Creigiau on Saturday and secured a victory that takes them to the top of the league.

Sully won the toss and asked Creigiau to bat first. Ben Taylor and Daffyd Taylor took the score along to 43 before Jake Griffett struck to remove Daffyd for 19.

A few runs later and another wicket fell, this time Innes was LBW to Lloyd Bruce for a duck.

Things went from bad to worse for the home side as they collapsed from 51 for 2 to 69 for 5, with Jake Griffett picking up another three wickets.

But things didn’t go completely in Centurions’ favour as Powell and Griffiths took the score to 90.

Then Powell and Nicholls put on another 47 for the 7th wicket to give Creigiau a fighting chance.

But the tail went cheaply and the score was 166 when the final wicket fell in the 40th over.

After tea, the regular opening pair of Rhett Jones (30) and Gethin Hicks (13) took the score along to 49 before both batsmen fell to the bowling of Martin Powell.

But then Calum Thomas (who ended on 42) and Tom Edwards (29) shared a stand of 88 to put the visitors back in the driving seat. David Goodway (16 not out) and Tom Davies (10) steered the ship home with plenty of overs to spare.

For Creigiau, Martin Powell (2 for 15) and Tomos Innes (2 for 35) were the pick of the bowlers.

2nd XI

The 2nd XI entertained Creigiau seconds at Burnham Avenue and won by 6 wickets to keep up with the leaders at the top of the table.

After electing to bat, Creigiau lost two wickets cheaply, with Solanki and Hughes both out with the score on 27. But Bassett-Jones and O’Hanlon dug in and took the score along to 95.

After O’Hanlon departed for 35, Bassett-Jones (65) was joined by Javed who hit 17 in a half century partnership.

Dan Chaulk, who took 3 wickets for 31, was Centurions’ best bowler, but Harish Hirani’s 0 for 17 off 8 overs was also worth a mention, as was the marvellous run out by Aron Arthur to dismiss Solanki.

The visitors ended on 168 for 6 after the 40 overs.

In reply, Patrick Lane and Russell Thomas shared a half century opening partnership before Lane was caught for 30. Dan Chaulk entered the fray and hit a quickfire 19 to help the score along to 81 for 2.

Russell Thomas was joined by nephew Iwan and shared another half century stand before Iwan was out for 21.

After this Harri Edwards took over where Iwan left off and shared a stand of 31 before Russell Thomas was run out for a well-made 61.

It was left to Edwards (19not out) and Aron Arthur (4 not out) to see Sully home with ten overs to spare. For the visitors, Bassett Jones picked up 2 for 37.
