WHAT a week was had by the Sully Bowls Club.

On paper two away games is never good but for the first time in many a year two victories ensued.

On Wednesday night a trip to the Murch Dinas Powis turned out to be a real nail biter.

On 5 ends the home side where running away with it 20-8 but sully started to find the heaver green and on ten ends had turned it round to 34-31. it was nip and tuck all the way with special mention for Albert Kelly who, well in his eighties, had a simply superb game at lead.

The rink of Albert Kelly, Huw Thomas, Trevor Murphy, Doug Hotchkiss carried the night with a 23-8 win but the Dave Davies, Richard Fitzjohn, Stewart Phillips, Hugh Levick Jones scored the winning shots taking a 3 on the last end to get the winning match margin drawing 14-14 but giving a 58-55 overall win.

Ben Curtis, Doug Curtin, Alen Rees, Dennis Edwards 14-15 and Eddie Pryer, Paul Neale, Alen Thomas, Dave Curtis 7-18.

Come Saturday and the first rain of the season stopped just as play began and a good afternoon ensued.

On a beautiful surface in Llantwit Major nothing was expected as we had lost a fortnight before in the Munro Cup but how wrong we where.

At 5 ends it was 15-22 , at ten ends 37-40 so to fifteen and it has moved to 62-58.

At the end three rinks of the green Sully 1 up and the Andy Smith, Doug Curtin, M Hardy, Brian Griffiths rink held on to take a 2 for a 3 shot win with 3 rinks up.

Stewart Phillips, Alen Rees, Doug Hotchkiss, Fred Phillips 15-26 Ben Curtis, Trevor Murphy, Dennis Edwards 18-15 Garth John, Richard Fitzjohn, Alen Thomas, Dave Curtis 24-16, 80-77 overall so a good was had.

This week the Villagers are away to Dinas Powis on Wednesday and home to Taffs Well on Saturday.
