YSGOL Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg’s Sports Day was held at Jenner Park last Thursday.

The conditions were excellent and everyone enjoyed the hottest day of the year so far.

The performances on the day were very impressive, and a number of school records were broken.

Moli Lyons broke the 300m record in the Year 9 girl’s race as well as the record for the 800m and the 1500m!

It has been a very successful year for Moli as she has been selected for the Welsh Cross Country team as well as representing Wales in the mini Marathon in London.

Tesni Gardiner also did well breaking the record in the discus and shot put in the Year 10 girls competitions.

The enthusiasm and a general ethos of doing your best for the team made for an extremely enjoyable day.

Everyone has the opportunity to run the 1500m every year and teachers get involved by offering moral support, advice and showing a good example.

This year the pupils raced to raise money for this year’s school charity which is Young Minds.

Rhys Beynon, head of the physical education department, said: “We had a wonderful day and the efforts were commendable. It was a very proud day as everyone gave their best and were willing to give the competitions a go."

Although it was a close call this year, once again, the House trophy went to Iltud.
