PENARTH'S Evenlode Primary School recently won the Championship

Bowl at the National Pop Lacrosse finals.

On Sunday, June 24 the event was held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, in which the top 19 teams in the UK competed for three trophies – the Championship Cup, the Championship Plate and the Championship Bowl.

It was a very warm and sunny day, but luckily the finals were played indoors on a well-ventilated sports hall.

The 5-a-side tournament progressed with teams being divided into 4 pools in the morning and then in the afternoon teams were divided into 3 pools according to the mornings results.

The afternoon games were run on a knockout basis.

With the support of families, relatives and friends, every team produced some excellent lacrosse and a good time was had by all, with plenty of exciting games.

Evenlode Primary (Swifts) played Oldfield Park in the semi-finals, winning 5-3.

In the final they played Valley Invicta, with Evenlode running out winners 11-6.

Tony Higginson, of the Welsh Lacrosse executive committee, said: "I would like to thank the English Lacrosse Association umpires and officials for organising and arranging the finals, which were run very smoothly and professionally.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents for all their help and support, the players for participating and the families, relatives and friends for their support."
