PENARTH continued to consolidate their position near the top of the Munro table with a comprehensive win over near neighbours Belle Vue.

Four winning rinks secured an overall massive margin of 65 shots in a 101 to 36 final score.

The best of the home results saw Phil Crocker skip Derek Blainey, Nick Thomas and Terry Buckingham to a resounding 32 - 4 victory. Leading 16 - 4 after 10 ends the ruthless rink prevented any further opposition score through to the end.

Bob Horne, Jack Beanland, Berwyn Langley and Mike Conway showed equally good form to rattle up a 26 - 10 win. Dave Clements ( 21-11 ) and Dave Dalby ( 22-11 ) completed the rout on the night.

St. Josephs came to Rectory Rd last Saturday for a PG1 encounter with Penarth lying in third spot and St Jos leading the table. A must win game for Penarth ended in disappointment as only 2 rinks managed to win, with the visitors bagging a 10 points from an 11 shot win ( 72-83 ).

Best performing rink with a 24-17 win was Dave Clements, Mike England, Don Shirley and Phil Davies.

They led from the second end right to the end.

Nick Chandler, Bob Horne, Jack Beanland and Mike Conway held on to scrape a 1 shot ( 17 - 16 ) win having held the lead throughout.

Despite a late rally of 10 shots over the final 4 ends Colin Grant's rink still suffered a 19-25 reverse. Dave Plank also went down by 15 shots ( 10-25 ).

The PG2 side faced Cardiff Athletic away and pulled off a well earned 3 shot victory ( 81-78 ) in an extremely close and nail biting battle, securing a welcome 11points.

Colin Hicks, Ron Birkby, Alan Stockham and Neil Gaskell fought fearlessly throughout to earn a 20-20 draw.

An equally tight encounter saw Dave Hilldrup, Haydn Trow, Ralph Mould and Brian Chandler score 2 on the last end to pip the opponents by 24 - 23.

The best result on the day came from Bob Hill. John Whitfield, Brian Knight and Bob Lewis with a 19 - 14 win.

Bob led 11 - 1 after 7 ends and never surrendered that advantage.
