SULLY Centurions made the short trip down to Hayes Point and returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory over neighbours Barry Wanderers.

Wanderers batted first and lost a couple of early wickets before Tillbrook (70) and Kunal (36) shared a century third wicket stand.

Unfortunately for the home side, out of the remaining batsmen, only Hassett, with 19, reached double figures and they were all out for 179.

For Centurions, Gareth Thomas (4 for 25) Lloyd Bruce (3 for 47) and Jake Griffett, with 2 for 36, did most of the damage.

In reply, Gethin Hicks (16) and Rhett Jones put on 68 for the first wicket and Jones (63) went on to share another half century partnership with Calum Thomas (33) leaving the score at a healthy 124 for 2.

After a middle order wobble, which saw three wickets go down for 13 runs, David Goodway (19 not out) Tom Edwards (22) and Alfie Lee (10 not out) saw Centurions home with plenty of overs to spare.

2nd XI

The second XI took on Wanderers 2nd XI at Burnham Avenue in the reverse fixture and took maximum points in a very one-sided affair.

Batting first, Centurions lost Tom Davies when he was forced to retire hurt after pulling a hamstring after scoring 10.

However, this brought Ben Spear and Russell Thomas together and they began what was to prove an unbeatable partnership.

The Wanderers’ fielders were wilting in the heat as time and again Thomas and Spear found the boundary, eventually putting on an amazing 250 runs for the first wicket.

Ben Spear eventually went for 112, being caught off the bowling of Fagg, for what was to be the only wicket. The innings closed on a remarkable 281 for1.

After tea, Wanderers set about making inroads on the target. Howells (36) Allen (10) and Singh (21) put up some resistance, but once they were out wickets began falling with regularity. For Sully, Jason Hicks ended on 3 for 20.

Ben Spear added to his batting heroics by returning figures of 3 for 8 in just three overs.

With contributions from Aron Arthur (2-15) Nathan Cuddihy (1-22) and Iwan Thomas (1-15) Centurions wrapped up the 149 run victory with 9 overs to spare.
