PENARTH'S Bowling Club's Munro Cup good form continued as they took 12 points off visitors Llantwit Major with a 3 to 1 rink victory. Skip Clive Fry led the way with Paul Church, Derek Musk and Phil Davies helping to register a very comfortable 24 - 5 result.

Colin Grant also had an easy night as Phil Crocker, Derek Blainey and Terry Buckingham bowled extremely well to produce a 14 shot margin ( 24 - 10 ).

A seven on the 7th end undoubtedly paved the way to glory, although questions were asked of the bowler whose one wood failed to make the count and therefore miss the maximum reward.

Nick Chandler, Bob Horne, Ron Birkby and Mike Conway staved off a late rally to hold on to their lead, winning by 15 to 13.

The final rink consisted of the three Daves ( Plank, Dalby and Clement ) together with Russell Daniel. Unfortunately three Daves were not enough to secure a win as they went down 10 -16.

The overall result was success for Penarth by 73 to 44.

PG1 opponents Llantrisant came to Rectory Road eager to reverse the one shot loss they suffered earlier in the season.

Penarth were not in the mood to relinquish the ascendancy and so it was to be, as they produced a well deserved 85 - 67 win.

Heroes of the day were Dave Plank, Dave Dalby, Bob Willmott and Dave Murphy as they recovered from being 10 nil down after 8 ends, to snatch victory by one shot ( 18 - 17 ). Remarkable.

Both Colin Grant and Nick Chandler rinks revelled in the excellent playing surface both winning by a margin of 13 shots each.

Nick was ably assisted by Bob Horne, Jack Beanland and Mike Conway in running up a 27 -14 score, after racing to an 11 shot lead at the 6th end.

Colin's happy little helpers of Phil Crocker, Ken Thorne and Terry Buckingham bowled efficiently to arrive at a 29 - 16 win.

Clive Fry's rink struggled to cope with a quickening surface and were losers by 11 - 26.

The PG2 side unfortunately more than met their match at Llantrisant on what was a very difficult and unrewarding green.

The end result was a loss by 58 - 93 and nil pointe.

On Friday evening at Llanbradach, the Single rink entry skipped by Colin Grant were successful over an Ely Valley rink to make the final which is to played on Friday 24th August at the Brad.

Some very tight bowling from Colin, Nick Chandler, Jack Beanland and Terry Buckingham restricted Ely Valley throughout the encounter, such that they declared Penarth winners after 15 ends, with Penarth leading by 12 shots.

The other finalist is Barry Athletic who disposed of Penylan on an adjoining rink. Bring it on!

The Ladies Evening league side travelled across to Roath Park in the knowledge that a win would secure them the title.

The bowling produced a comfortable victory by 43 shots to 22. Wendy Grant, Jayne Edwards, Tricia Brinkworth and Chris Church were the heroes of the night amassing a a margin of 22 shots ( 26 - 4 ).

Belinda Price, Kath Jenkins, Betty Jones and Chris Davies will rue the last 4 ends losing what should have been a winning lead of 5 shots when they dropped a total of 7 shots ending up losing by 1 shot ( 17 - 18 ).

Nevertheless it was an excellent all round performance during the season and congratulations are definitely in order.

Fortunes were not quite so good for the Double rink side who ventured to Barry Central only to find the difficult green not to their liking at all.

A result of 16 - 50 will not have pleased Capt June, but the news of the Evening league title will have cheered her up no end.

The final game of the week was a short trip to friends Windsor for an Afternoon league fixture.

Most of the 3 rink team returned later with smiley faces as a win by 61 shots to 45 was recorded.

Belinda Price, Joan Lewis, Lorraine Palmer and Chris Church bowled exquisitely to triumph by 23 - 5 winning 14 of the 18 ends. Sue Croll also came up trumps as she together with Kath Jenkins, Jill Gaskell and Norma Duggan won by a neat 5 shots ( !9 - 14 ).

Wendy Grant, Betty Jones, June Williams and Val Turner struggled somewhat and could not overhaul a 9 shot deficit after 6 ends losing eventually by 19 - 26.

A good team result overall.
