LAST week saw Special Olympics Wales send 32 members to the Special Olympics GB 40th Anniversary Games in Stirling Scotland.

This event was an celebration of Special Olympics in Great Britain for 40 years and 50 years worldwide.

Teams attended from every region of England Scotland & Wales and invited teams from Isle of Man, Denmark, Germany and Macau

The Games welcomed 1,200 athletes, 400 coaches & officials, 500 volunteers and attracted 5,000 family members and spectators to the event, they will compete in 10 sports.

The Welsh team have eight athletes from Barry, Penarth, Llantwit Major and St Athan competing in four of the sports.

James Savory (Barry) in badminton enjoyed bronze in singles and gold men's doubles partnered by Stephen Davies from Wrexham.

Heather Williams (Barry) in boccia, 5th place in singles and a 6th place in doubles partnered by Sonja Pedersen from Cardiff who both train at Boccia Rollers in Barry.

Naomi Baelz (St Athan) in bowls group gold in singles and gold in pairs partnered by Shaun Peregrine from Ammanford.

Golf 18 hole competition Sam Lazenbury (Barry) had a bronze medal and in the 9 hole competition

Matthew Prewett (Penarth) had a gold medal, Gareth Lloyd (Barry) bronze medal, Mark Eveleigh (Barry) bronze medal, Adrian Abbott (Llantwit Major) 5th place.
