THE Ladies of Penarth Rectory Road assembled in force recently to help their captain June Williams celebrate her day.

Despite some unfavourable weather on the day, a most enjoyable afternoon of bowls took place on the indoor green.

This was followed by another sumptuous offering served up by the more senior male members.

The merriment continued with songs and laughter in the bar enjoyed by all who stayed on.

Captain June was even more happy a week or so later as her side wrapped up the Afternoon League title by soundly beating Mackintosh on all three rinks.

This was the penultimate fixture of the league, but with the win over Mackintosh, Penarth held an unassailable lead to become champions.

A convincing win by Kath Jenkins, Tricia Brinkworth, Jill Gaskell and Christina Church laid the foundations for the win. They took complete control from the first end and recorded a 28-6 victory, by winning 13 of the 18 ends.

Wendy Grant, Sue Croll, Joan Lewis and Lorraine Palmer had a fairly essy win also by 21 shots to 12. The final rink of Belinda Price, Betty Jones, June Williams and Chris Davies won narrowly by the adjusted score of 12 shots to 10.5.

An overall very satisfying win of 61 to 28.5 to win the title. Well done ladies.
