FORMER Newport Dragons and Wales second row Ian Gough is returning to his home town of Cwmbran for a charity dinner in his honour.

The ex-lock, capped 64 times and was a member of the 2008 Grand Slam winning side, is helping to raise money for the Welsh Charitables RFC Benevolent Fund at the event at Parkway Hotel.

Gough made 139 appearances for the Black and Ambers, playing with the iconic David ‘Muddy’ Waters on his 1996 debut, and 92 for the Dragons before he headed for the Ospreys in 2007.

The lock returned to Rodney Parade in 2014/15 and made 10 outings, the last of which was against Edinburgh in the semi-final of the European Challenge Cup at Murrayfield.

Former internationals including Alix Popham, Garin Jenkins, John Perkins and Clive Rowlands OBE will join Gough at the top table, sharing stories from knowing the 41-year-old both on and off the field.

David Power, secretary of the Welsh Charitables RFC, said: "Ian started playing at Cwmbran juniors and youth and has never forgotten his roots. He is the most capped international to come from Cwmbran.

"Over the years his support for the Welsh Charitables RFC has been wonderful so we are really pleased to hold a dinner with him

"Ian is a well-liked guy and we're looking forward to putting on a memorable night. We hope fans and friends along with current and former players from the likes of Cwmbran, Newport, Pontypridd, the Dragons and Ospreys will come and show their support for him."

The dinner is at the Parkway on Friday, November 23. Tickets cost £45 and include a four-course meal.

The event is a 6.30pm meet for a 7.15pm sit-down. Contact power on 07973 705062 or david.power@welshcharitablesrfc.com to get tickets.
