Windsor LTC ladies seconds are top again

WINDSOR LTC Ladies Second team have come top of their division for the second consecutive year.

When they were promoted in 2008, this season's Captain Kay Clarke was concerned that the team would experience some tough opposition and suffer some losses.

However the Seconds took to their challenge admirably and managed 8 wins out 10 matches, a fantastic achievement.

The top position in the league was decided after the last match of the season last Saturday. Even though it was Ladies Finals Day at Wimbledon, Windsor's supporters were out in great numbers and the ladies came up trumps.

The joys of playing a home match were evident, with lovely food and plenty of noisy spectators! The visitors Creigiau lost 5 rubbers to 1 and thus forfeited their no 1 position in the league.

Well done Beth Hughes, Rachel Hignett, Diane Chisnall, Linda Ellis, Ann Davies, Sarah Halpin, Jane Williams and Kay Clarke for an altogether consistent season.

Thanks must also go to Elaine Newton, Alison Ray, and Chris Dunn for stepping in to help us achieve promotion once more.

Edwina Gill is also very pleased with the Ladies Third team, who have won 6 out of 9 matches and also hope to be in contention for promotion by winning their last encounter this week. We'll keep our tennis rackets crossed for you!

Clare Jones is so pleased that the Ladies Fourth team has won 4 matches this season, such an improvement to the 2008 results. Her players are looking forward to next year's challenges now that they are an established squad.

The Ladies First team, however, are still in need of a win. There are still 4 matches to go so with plenty of talent available to choose from hopefully they will be successful.

It has been a frustrating season for captain Cathy O'Doherty and her players, with too many injuries for a really talented squad to cope with.

There is always something happening at the Windsor Tennis Club whether social events, junior activities, and of course lots of team and social tennis. Head coach Melissa House and her team are always available for instruction.
