BRIDGEND STREET 2 SULLY SPORTS 1
A 15-GAME game unbeaten run came to an end for Sports, when they lost to undefeated league-leaders Bridgend Street in the South Wales Senior League Division One at a boggy Splott Park on Saturday.
Sports conceded an early goal after starting brightly and Street were on top, despite a few chances for Sully.
The pitch did no-one any favours and the game developed into a midfield battle with Govier and Ferguson in the thick of things, and Yarr feeding off the scraps in a disappointing first half.
With Sports chasing the game, huge gaps started to appear and a long clearance found the centre forward for a clear run on goal. He finished expertly to increase the Street lead.
The introduction of Nigel Underdown to the battle added some much needed steel and they began at last to look like the team of old, pegging back the Mission for long spells.
Sub Nigel Batt had a chance but it was a set piece which gave Sports hope with Ed Jones glancing in a brave header, A little panic crept into the leaders' play and some time-wasting tactics were employed as Sports searched for the equaliser, but it was not to be and in the end Street deserved to take the points.
The game was well refereed by Brian Scales who played good advantage to both teams.
Sports have the chance to bounce back when they entertain Penrhriwceiber on Saturday in the South Wales Senior Cup at Sully. Players to arrive at 12.45pm.
The FAW Welsh Trophy quarter final will be played at Wrexham on Saturday, February 13. The bus will leave Sully at 7am, and the Tynewydd at 7.30am prompt.
The bus has only a few remaining seats so anyone who wants to come and support the boys should inform the committee or players ASAP.
