THE organising committee of Penarth & Dinas Runners are pleased to report the successful completion of their popular annual event at Porthkerry Country Park, Barry, where in glorious sunshine, the scenic route through one of the Vale's treasures was again a highlight of the day.

The multi-terrain race was won this year by Luke Moghaddas Davies (unattached), covering the challenging five-mile course in a respectable 29 minutes and 59 seconds. He was followed by Edward Donovan (30m 39s, Les Croupiers) and Stuart Crees (30m 42s, Les Croupiers).

The first lady home for the second year in succession was Sharon Leech (Swansea Harriers) in 34m 53s, followed by Nicky McWilliam (38m 44s, Les Croups) and Judith Oakley (38m 55s).

The event was supported this year by Parkwood Leisure (Cardiff International Pool), who donated prizes of annual subscriptions to each of the first male and female finishers, in addition to other prizes for first, second and third in the main categories.

The challenging multi-terrain event continues to attract more competitors each year, from further afield and local runners with whom it has become a firm favourite. Every one of the 150 or so entrants who commented said the course was fantastic, and the organisation and marshalling second to none. Many added that they are already looking forward to next year's event.

Penarth and Dinas Runners, a small but enthusiastic and friendly group of runners based at Penarth Leisure Centre, will be holding the second of their annual events during Penarth Festival Week - The Cosmeston Relays, this year on July 11 at 7pm in Cosmeston Country Park.

Teams of three runners (or four for affiliated running clubs) each run approx 5K (three miles) around a figure-of-eight loop in a tag-style relay race. Presentations to the winners and some refreshments will be provided later in the Cosmeston Visitor Centre.
