FAIRWATER FC 1 COGAN CORONATION 2

THE Bruty Cup semi final took place at Poplar Park in Fairwater.

The home side started brightly and Cogan weathered the storm for the first 20 minutes but eventually got into their stride and started to control the midfield After 35 minutes they were awarded a corner which was hit to the far post and Jon Carpentier, despite being under pressure, managed to hit the back of the net.

Cogan were disciplined and restricted Fairwater to long-range efforts.

However, on 43 minutes Fairwater struck back with an unstoppable 25 yard strike which left Cogan keeper James Curtin with no chance.

Cogan immediately looked for a reaction and after some good interplay Liam Jones burst into the Fairwater penalty area, taking the ball to the by-line and crossing it.

The Fairwater keeper was caught flat-footed and misjudged the flight of the ball. He flapped at it and put it into the back of his own net, giving Cogan a 2-1 lead going into the break.

Cogan controlled the second half and after the introduction of substitutes Keiran James and Haidn Dibble, they passed Fairwater off the park, and could have gone further ahead when Grant Beedell scored with a clever lob over the keeper – only to have the goal disallowed.

James Bloxham, Ben White and Wes Drew remained solid in defence and the final whistle sealed a famous victory for Cogan The Final will be played against Grange Albion on Friday, May 25 at the home of Bridgend Street FC, 'The Willows'.
